Race Car

Successes eXXe16

In 2016, after a long time, a lot of sweat, and heart blood, the first race car has finally been completed!

The team participated in a competition for the first time in 2017 in Italy. Thereby all technical tests have been accepted with success and the endurance race has been contested. Unfortunately, the endurance race could not be completed due to a defect in the safety circuit. However, it was a complete success for the team, as the vehicle is, according to a judge, "Above the level of other first-year vehicles".

The vehicle competed again in 2018 in the Netherlands. This time, it managed to successfully pass all technical tests and participate in all dynamic races. This was achieved by only 3 out of 21 teams and therefore makes us particularly proud.

Rollout

Data about eXXe16:

  • Torque: 900 Nm
  • Power: 80 kW
  • Acceleration (0-100): < 3 s
  • Top speed: 120 km/h
  • Weight: 392 kg

What is behind eXXe16?

The basis of our car is a tubular steel frame. 99 individual pieces were welded together by hand, so it provides protection, mounting options, and suspension points for the tires. These are driven by two water-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motors, which transmit their power to the drive shaft via angular gears. Power electronics are required to operate the motors. Frequency converters, also elaborately water-cooled, reliably deliver a total power of 80 kW to both motors. The driving energy is taken from 120 individual battery cells, which are grouped into "containers" on the sides of the vehicle.

Status

Our first race car has meanwhile successfully survived its races and now stands in a showcase in the university building (entrance hall, building 5). We are very proud of our first car, but it also showed us where there are still weak points and what we need to improve and optimize for the next car. Our journey is far from over!
